Loads of sites seem to be talking about Samsung's latest potential iPhone killer—a smartphone with a large and fully flexible OLED screen that some are tipping for release in 2012. And all this hype about the Galaxy Skin started with an article in the very respectable
International Business Timesit must be true then ...

The only problems are that:
1 - Samsung has denied the Skin's 2012 release.
2 - The International Business Time (IBTimes) doesn't actually say that the phone is due for release next year.

In fact, in light of the upcoming iPhone 5 presentation, the IBTimes article tries to imagine what kind of phone Samsung could potentially come up with to rival Apple's star handset. For this, the site looked to a concept phone that Samsung presented at the CES 2011 tech show—the Samsung Galaxy Skin—which is certainly very sleek but which is still only a prototype.

IBTimes does, however, report to have heard from a source at Samsung that the firm could be due to start mass-producing flexible OLED screens in the second quarter of 2012. We can only imagine that this is where the confusion arose, as we've seen several sites reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Skin handset is due for launch in April 2012.

However, the article then goes on to report that the Skin which—let's not forget—is technically still a prototype, is likely to be around 8 mm thick and could come with a new Android OS, 16 GB or 32 GB of memory, an 8-Megapixel camera and a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It's probably worth taking all that with a pinch of salt, though.

Samsung has apparently taken its concept even further, we're told, by loading the Skin with a picoprojector function ... which is all a bit of a coincidence since rumours point to a similar feature in the iPhone 5. What's more, rumour has it that the Galaxy Skin could be able to hold any position you bend it into, so you could wear it as a bracelet or fold back the edges to make a stand. All of that sounds great but we're now pretty clearly in the realm of fantasy. Perhaps the clue's in the song title playing on the Galaxy Skin below ...
