It's official—the follow-up to Samsung's hit Galaxy S2 handset is due to be unveiled at an event in London on 3 May. But will the Galaxy S3 be able to prolong the success of the GS2 and continue to ward off competition from Apple's iPhone 4S—not to mention the upcoming iPhone 5 (or 'new iPhone')?Samsung is gearing up to officially present the successor to the Galaxy S2, which, almost a year after its release, is still a firm favourite among consumers. Samsung has invited journalists to "come and meet the next Galaxy", which should, theoretically, be the S3, unless the firm decides to do an Apple and ditch the number system from the name of its updated flagship handset.
The most persistent rumours to date suggest that the S3 will ruin on the latest version of Android (ICS) and use a 4.7-inch screen with a boosted resolution of 1280 x 720p (like the Google Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One X)—that's higher-def than the Retina display in the iPhone 4S. It's also expected to run on a Samsung-made 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and come with a 12-Megapixel camera.
However, we'll have to wait another three weeks to find out exactly what's in store in Samsung's latest Galaxy handset! Stay tuned!
