Samsung Chromebook 5 Series: Boot Time

As we mentioned earlier today, we've got hold of the first ever Chromebook, the Samsung 5 Series.  One of the most interesting features of these new laptops is the fact they promise incredibly fast boot times.

We'll have more details in the coming days, but we decided to start things off by timing how long it took to start up.  Google's press release boldly claims that it takes just eight seconds.

We started our stop watch and waited while the Samsung 5 Series Chromebook booted: it took 13 seconds.

That's longer than the eight seconds promised by Google, but the manufacturer doesn't make it clear what its claims are based on: actually being able to use the computer, or just log into it.  In the video we'll show you later on, if you include the time it takes to choose a user and enter a password, it's closer to 16/17 seconds before the laptop is actually operational.  We haven't included that time in our figures though.

It's still incredibly fast though and once the 13 seconds are over, your Chromebook is ready for the action.

We'll have more results and our first impressions later on ...
