Readers Write: 24 inch Monitor Question: Acer G245HAbid = GD245HQ?

Sometimes two monitors go on sale with very similar names, right down to single character.  In some cases, it's to make life easier for one particular store, but in a lot of cases, there's actually a very real difference between the two different models that are hard to spot from their names.

This isn't the first time we've received a query like this:

Subject: Acer G245HAbid

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the site!  You've saved me from picking the wrong product more than once!

Right now, I'm writing because I've seen a great deal on a monitor.  What's odd is that it's the G245HAbid, but they then say it's 3D compatible, copying the description of the G245HQ which is 120 Hz before saying it's actually 60 Hz.

Do you have any information about this screen as I'm a little confused?

Thanks in advance.

To give you a direct answer straight away: the G245HAbid doesn't have a refresh rate of 120 Hz.  That's why it isn't compatible with NVidia's 3D Vision technology.  It seems like a fairly normal 24'' monitor with a 2 ms response time.  That's why it's a good £100 cheaper ...

We can see why you got confused because the two monitors look very similar and there isn't much else to separate them.

As for the description which seems to be exactly the same as for the G245HQ, that mistake seems to go all the way to Acer's own site, which doesn't make a distinction between the two models.

We're going to let them know so they can make the distinction clear.
