PCs
Don't forget the PC when it comes to gaming, especially as it's the only platform that currently supports 3D.

Although 2009 hasn't been a year for new consoles, some existing products have been given a makeover, some have fallen in price and others have been improved. Sony has launched the Slim version of its Playstation 3, the price of the Xbox 360 has been cut twice in succession and Nintendo have launched Motion Plus, improving the accuracy of the Wiimote.

The PS3 slim, on the right, replaces the PS3...

There are two main sections to the market:

Consoles for use at home

Sony Playstation 3 Slim

Microsoft Xbox 360

Nintendo Wii

As well as being a very good games console, it has the enormous advantage of being a high quality Blu-Ray player.

Games: Playstation 3
It equals the Playstation 3 in terms of games quality but there’s a bigger online community for the Xbox.

Games: Xbox 360
A fun console for gaming with friends and family. With the introduction of Motion Plus, games can reproduce your movements much more accurately.

Games: Nintendo Wii

Handheld consoles

Sony PSP

Nintendo DSi

Apple iPod Touch

Excellent graphics quality and can also be used as a multimedia player, giving better quality than mobile phones.

Games: Sony PSP

An innovative console. The games put all available accessories to good use (microphone, camera and touch screen).

Games: Nintendo DSi
Of course the iPod Touch is a media player first and foremost (or a phone in the case of the iPhone), but among the 100,000 apps available on the AppStore, there are games to rival other handheld consoles.

Games: iPod touch, iPhone
