Although production models won't go on sale in the UK until May 5, we've had the chance to test a preview of Canon's new digital SLR, the EOS 500D.

Canon is piling on the pixels, with a new 15 Megapixel sensor, but there are some other interesting additions too, including a 3'' VGA LCD and HD video.

This new camera represents the first 'consumer' SLR from Canon with video--and what's more, it's Full HD.  Having said that, the framerate for video shot at 1920 x 1080 pixels is only 20 fps, but you can get a more reasonable 30 fps at 1280 x 720.

We'll be testing the final version of the 500D when it becomes available next month.
