LG has been conspicuously absent from the docking station market. Now, as if to right the wrong, the company has simultaneously released a range of four new docks: the ND1520, ND4520, ND5520 and the flagship model, the ND8520.
The ND1520 is a clock radio with a 5 W speaker, an FM tuner, a mini-jack input and an iPod/iPhone connector.
The ND4520 is a portable docking station that can receive a battery to power its 10 W speakers. The connectivity includes: AUX IN, USB (for charging only) and an iPod/iPhone/iPad connector. It also works with Bluetooth via an iOS/Android app.
The ND5520 has a touch interface and a 30 W speaker, and is compatible with Android devices in addition to Apple products. However, the connector will certainly spell trouble for smartphones (HTC and others) that have the micro-USB port on the side. This model also features Bluetooth.
The ND8520 is by far the most interesting product in the line. It has an 80 W output and an integrated subwoofer. It's compatible with iPod/iPhone/iPad and supports AirPlay and Bluetooth. The only thing left to see is the sound quality...
In this fine era of wireless communication, LG has interestingly opted for a hybrid solution that combines both physical connector ports and AirPlay. There's just one thing: expect compatibility issues with iPhone 5 and the Lightning adapter.
