With the Wii U, Nintendo has opened new doors for gamers... and Sony, very much inspired by Nintendo, is also getting in there with the Playstation Vita which you'll be able to use to control your Playstation 3 and not only...

At Develop Conference 2011 recently, the head of R&D at Sony Europe, Phil Rogers, unveiled some previously undisclosed features on Sony's forthcoming console, as reported by Eurogamers.

You will, then, be able to use the Sony handheld as a controller, to display data on the games you're playing, use its gyroscopic system and touch front and back to play by moving the console.

The PS3 and the PS Vita will also be able to talk to each other. You'll be able  to play on one and take up the saved game on the other, for example, no matter where you are. Sony is moreover encouraging developers to factor this multi-platform spec into the development of their forthcoming games. This concept is of course strangely reminiscent of what Nintendo are doing with the Wii U.

And that's not all! You'll be able to start watching a film on Playstation 3, then continue watching it on the move with your Vita.

The pleasures of the Vita will however be reserved for the better off amongst you. The bill for the Playstation 3 (slim 160 GB - £240) with the Playstation Vita (Wi-fi: £235) is pretty steep. The latest on the PS Vita is that it will be put on sale on 28th October 2011.
