Philips 240PW9 IPS monitor in the Face-Off

Philips' 240PW9 monitor seems to have caught the attention of plenty of you--and we're glad that you don't shy away from letting us know when there's a product you feel we've missed out on.

And in this case, your enthusiasm is perfectly understandable.  This particular monitor has an IPS panel with a reported response time of 5 ms; that might not seem much, but IPS screens which claim 6 ms are already as fast as a 2 ms TN panel.  It comes in the increasingly rare resolution of 1900 x 1200 pixels.

The list of attractive features doesn't stop there, though: it can also rotate from side to side, slide up and down on its stand and pivot fround to portrait mode, all of which which will complement the wider viewing angles of its IPS panel.  If you're not familiar with this technology, it offers much better viewing angles than the more common TN system, which has an irritating tendency to make the screen appear black as soon as you look at them from below.

While you're waiting for tis full test, then you can compare it to other screens like the NEC MultiSync EA231WMi which also has an IPS panel.  Put them side by side and see how their contrast, colour handling and repsonsivess compare …

And if you're interested in other IPS displays, don't forget that you can now use our filters to pick out models that use this technology.
