Panasonic and 3D TVs at CES, in Vegas

Like most manufacturers, Panasonic has made the most of CES 2010 in Las Vegas to present its 3D innovations.

Panasonic was moreover the first brand into the 3D TV market and first to announce 3D TVs for 2010. Now they’ve done it again with a Quad-HD 3D compatible 152-inch screen: 4096x2160 or 8.5 million pixels!


Very nice indeed but what good is it as it won’t be on sale? It is of course a technological shop window for the brand and gives us an idea of what direction they're looking to move in next. According to Panasonic, then, the future will be big and it will be in 3D. Will the size of our flats follow suit? Let’s hope so.

You have to say that Panasonic are pushing the 3D angle hard. So much so that they're coming together with the US channel Direct TV to launch HD programmes in 3D as of June 2010. First of all it will be pay-per-view and will make available films, documentaries and a few other programmes. Panasonic is also working with AEG, CBS, Fox Sports/FSN, MTV and NBC to develop the number of programmes broadcast in 3D.

We should also say that Panasonic has just put a pro 3D video camera on sale, an indispensable accessory for getting all this lovely content to us. At $21,000 for the camera, don’t be thinking of filming your summer hols in 3D!
