125 YouTube videos have been selected as part of a competition to find the most creative videos from around the world to be shown in the different Guggenheim museums (Bilbao, Berlin, Venice and New York). The exhibition, entitled Youtube Play, will take place on the 21st October.
The idea came out of a partnership between YouTube, Guggenheim and HP, who is supplying the technology for the event. All submissions uploaded to YouTube after June 14th 2008 were accepted as long as they hadn't been produced by an employee of HP. You can now view the shortlist on Youtube.com/play.
Here's one of the music video entries:
The jury is made up of experts from the fields of art, design, cinema and video. Among them are the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, the film maker Darren Aronofsky and Laurie Anderson.
The initiative shows to what extent online creativity has become part of our culture and become a recognised separate artform.
The shortlist can be viewed at Youtube.com/play
