Some review sites haven't been particularly kind to Nvidia since the GeForce GTX 400. There are two main reasons for this: 1 - products sometimes being advertised as 'new' when they weren't really; 2 - when a genuinely new product was released, it invariably had great performances but also consumed way too much power and got far too hot.
Nvidia, however, has come back fighting with the new GF104 Fermi GPU. The new chip can currently be found in the GeForce GTX 460, which offers higher frequencies and a reduced number of transistors (1.95 billion instead of 3 billion). It also promises to be quieter and less power-hungry than previous Nvidia graphics cards.
Will it live up to expectations? Let's hope we get our hands on a test model soon!
