Panel Juggling: New LG model numbers distinguish screens

Slowly but surely, manufactuers are beginning to come to realise that two monitors that look the same on the outside but with different panels on the inside are by no means identical. The latest to see sense has been LG ...
Our most recent complaints were about the Korean manufactuer's 21.5'' monitor, the Flatron W2261V. LG had promised us that there would be no tricks with the panel on this flagship screen.
Just six weeks later, though, it has confimed our worst fears: although the 2261V that we tested had an excellent CMO panel, a second version, this time with an LG-Philips panel, was also available in the stores.
Once again, there's nothing on the outside of these screens to distinguish them, which caused the 2261V to lose a star in our test as we weren't sure which model you would actually end up with.
LG France has since made our complaints know to the parent company in Korea, and it worked. A new model number has appeared in the catalogue, the 2261VP (also listed as the 2261VP-PF), which is the LG-Phillips version of the earlier LG V2261V.
This is welcome news but only part of the story. The LG 2261V started out as a great success, winning five stars in our first test. It then fell to four stars after we saw how excellent the Dell 2209WA is.
It then lost another star when we discovered that two versions were on sale around the world, and there are still plenty of stocks of the 2261V which could contain eithber a CMO or an LG-Philips panel. The only thing that we can be certain of is that the latter is definitely included in the new 2261VP, which we hope to test very soon!
