Following on from the recently-announced SideWinder X8 which we will be testing soon, Microsoft has just announced a new, more affordable gaming mouse that's suitable for both left- and right-handers.

Like the X8, the X3 uses Microsoft's BlueTrack technology, which was first introduced on the new version of the Explorer Mouse. According to the manufacturer, it combines the benefits of the two other main sensor systems, offering both the high-speed accuracy of LED mice and the ability to work on almost any surface that laser mice are known for.

The new X3 has a more traditional shape and looks a little dull compared to its big brother. Left-handers will benefit from the symmetrical shape as they will now be able to use the mouse. We can only hope that it looks more attractive in real life than it does in Microsoft's publicity shots which make it seem grey and boring. We certainly hope that it has more than the one thumb button that we've seen so far, given the price it's been announced at.
