The media magnate, Rupert Murdoch has come out clearly against free news on the internet. "People can read news for free on the internet. This must change".

The owner of News Corp was speaking at the "Cable Show", the annual meeting of cable channels, that takes place in the city of Washington. News Corp has recently bought the Dow Jones group and got its hands on the Wall Street Journal, virtually the only example of a newspaper that has succeeded in demanding payment for its news. Many American newspapers are thinking at the moment about paid access for some high added value information. This reform has become necessary according to the papers, because of the huge fall in advertising income.
