Product survey: LCD 22 inch screens, the next generation

The 22 inch product survey version 2.0. Not that we will be getting you, the readers, to generate our content in the future! Just a bit of spring cleaning called for as a result of the new screens that have hit the comparison.

And many stars have been swept away in the clean… A lot of 5 star screens have become 4 star, the 4 stars 3 and the 3 stars 2. As overall quality is increasing, our criteria has had to harden up in response. We recently set the new criteria out: from now on, all monitors will follow the same ratings rules. This new standard means we have had to review all the ratings we have given up to now. We have also taken the opportunity to remove some older screen from the survey.

Today, three new screens are reviewed:

• Asus VH222H : only just on the market. A Full HD 22 inch with HDMI and speakers.

• Philips 220CW9 : it first stands out due to its nice design. It is also a 2ms model at a very attractive price.

• Dell 2209WA : this is the screen that is providing happiness to some (demanding users) and pain to others (manufacturers). This is the first 22 inch IPS panel. Even the best gamer TNs suffer opposite this one. Here it is, the new 5 star to beat!
