Videoprojectors: streamlining our Face-offs

With the aim of setting up our TV and videoprojector tests in the same way, we decided to change our test procedure in two ways: the upscaling test and the depth of blacks measurements have been changed.
Our procedure for mearuring depth of blacks has become more stringent. Instead of measuring a completely black image, we are now using partially black images. These are made up of black areas and other areas of varying brightness. The average of all these shades of greys correspond to 1%, 10% and 30% white exposition (see image below).
The depth of black measured is therefore more representatinve of usual usage. This is of course a much harder exercise for the projector and the black levels measured in these conditions much higher than before. Two projects have been tested using the new procedure, the HD82 and the Sanyo PLV-Z3000. Do go ahead and look at the results in the Face-offs. The results given corresond to the 30% test pattern, the hardest. So as to avoid any misinterpretation in the Face-offs, we have decided to remove all the images of measurements made with the previous procedure.
The upscaling test has also changed. The image of the state has been replaced by a pattern with varied shapes. Two sources were used for this test: a 576p imageand a 1080p image. For this test, the images of the statue will be kept for the time being and gradually replace by the new test.
