Security software for Seven

Only a week after the launch of Seven, Microsoft's first beta available to the public, three companies already provide security software compatible with the system.

Microsoft left nothing to chance. According to a post on the Windows team blog, security software providers were sent a beta of Windows 7 already in October, allowing them to get a head start. The results of Symantec, AVG and Kaspersky are here to prove it.

Whereas AVG offers the same tool as for its other versions of Windows, the competitors have released technical prototypes. Kaspersky Lab has a technical preview of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7 and Symantec offers the Norton 360 3.0 Beta, which works on the Windows 7 Beta.

For those who prefer other security solutions, Microsoft states it "is actively working with additional independent software vendors (ISVs) so that security software solutions will be available."

It would however come as a great surprise to see a large numbers of attacks on Windows 7 before its official release (date still unknown). Hackers are more likely to continue to target the more widely spread XP et Vista throughout 2009.
