Fujifilm reveals four new digital compacts under 170 euros

Fujiflm's J series has arrived, and there's a lot of resemblance within the family. In fact, there are so few differences between one camera and the next that they are priced only 10 euros apart. There are two features with two options each giving a total of four new digital compacts. The lens is 28-140 mm on the w models, and 35-175 mm on the others, while the screen is 2.7 inches J100 and J110w, while it's 3 inches on the J120 and 150w. The brushed metal frame, 10 Megapixel sensor and collection of scene modes are identical across the range. This common base has allowed Fujifilm to cut costs, which they seem to have passed on, pleasingly, with all four of these cameras retailing for under 170 euros [245 USD / 135 GBP]. Another advantage of releasing four cameras at once is that we know exactly what to expect from the whole collection: that's much better than a series of slight upgrades every six months. Are they a good buy though? We haven't yet had a chance to get them into a lab, but at this affordable price point, we've no reason to doubt they'd be much different to any other digital compact. They'll most likely appeal to those looking for simple, sober cameras that will take good pictures without the need for complicated configuration. > Our ongoing comparison of digital compact cameras |
