3D 120 Hz monitors: a penury at IFA

Is it better to have a 120 Hz screen than a 60 Hz? Yes, ghosting really falls off, both in games and films, in fact for all usages.

Does moving to 3D @ 60 Hz for compatible films and games, make a difference? Yes.

Why then do none of the manufacturers at IFA have such a screen on show? This is, after all, a high-tech fair and supposed to unveil all general consumer electronics well in advance. Only Samsung are offering passersby the chance to play on the SyncMaster 2233rz, that we tested back in January.

In spite of the lack of such screens at IFA, a rival 120 Hz screen is nevertheless on the point of appearing in the shops (a year late!): a ViewSonic. It will be out in a few days, we’ve been told. Deliveries are reported to be on their way to stores already! Watch this space…
