Recap: Last Week's Tests and Articles

Starting this week, DigitalVersus will be giving you a look back on the products we've tested in the last week every Monday.  Join us to look back over the week's successful (and not so successful) tests.

Last week's tests were a very mixed bag: although the average score was very close to four stars, three products managed a perfect score--one a mobile phone, one a mouse and the other a Blu-ray player.  At the same time, we also saw the first one-star review that we've published in a long time.

You'll also notice that we had an interview with Stéphane Quentin from the European press relations team at NVIDIA, and a guide to how the size of the sensor in your digital camera affects the quality of your photos.  In the coming weeks, we'll be bringing you more guides on other aspectss of digital photography.

Burning a plasma: two weeks later

August 31, 2009 3:30 PM
Back from your holidays? Maybe you missed out on our series on plasma burning? Well, now's your chance to catch up. Today we’re publishing our fourth article on the subject…

Recap on the rules of the game: following a debate on the forums, we decided to check whether plasma burning was still a problem or simply a myth we (among others) were perpetuating. So we chose our guinea pig, a Samsung plasma TV, and we submitted it to a programme of torture: first display of a fixed image for an hour, then 8 hours with variable settings.

The worst happened, the marks remained. We prescribed some rest and then two weeks after our last one hour test, almost four weeks after our 8 hour test, we had another look at the screen. Had the traces disappeared? To find out:

A plasma screen: subjection to burning / Episode 4: 2 weeks later

Or if you want to start at the beginning: A plasma screen: subjection to burning
