New Test: Nokia N79

December 29, 2008 7:10 PM
Nokia's Nseries family just keeps getting bigger.  Packed with interesting features, the new N79 has a lot in common with the N85, which is, in our eyes, the current market leader in this field.

Just a little smaller than its big brother, meaning less room on the screen and fewer multimedia options, the N79 nevertheless has plenty of interesting options.

With what's now a standard set of connectivity options (3G+ and WiFi), a 5 Megapixel camera, a 4 GB memory card, the N79 sets itself apart with a GPS chip. All of this is packed inside a small, snappy case that's both smart and--should you wish--customizable.

It's not as high-end as the N85 (but then again it's not as expensive, either), the N79 could very easily tempt customers who don't necessarily want the very latest technology in their pocket but who would still like to enjoy some modern multimedia features.

iPhone 3G gives more satisfaction than BlackBerry Storm

How satisfied are you with your smartphone ? This was the question asked by ChangeWave to 4000 owners of such a mobile device in the U.S. The study focused more particularly on the popular iPhone 3G by Apple and its recent competitor -the BlackBerry Storm- the touch-screen released by RIM.

The results of the study won't come as a great surprise: the iPhone wins with flying colors over the BlackBerry Storm. 77% of the owners of the phone "Made in Apple" report to be "very satsified" whereas a mere 33% of the RIM smartphone users said to be so. Moreover 14% of the Storm owners claimed to be "unsatisfied". By contrast, this was the case of only 5% of the iPhone users.

These results may however still change. Paul Carton, research director at ChangeWave underlines that the Storm is a recent product that can still evolve. "Competitve pressure may have caused the Storm to be launched before it was quite ready for prime time". According to him, the correction of the Storm's bugs could modify the conclusions of this survey. This had already been the case with the previous iPhone-killer, the HTC Touch Diamond. A new firmware had totally changed its offerings a few weeks after its launch.

Holiday sales on Steam

Valve's Steam holiday sale is on now and until January 2. Prices on some of the games are slashed by 75%.

75 % off on WTCC Race 07 and Portal, 50 % off on Unreal Tournament 3 and Team Fortress 2 : Steam's after-Christmas sale is one not to be missed!

A trip down nostalgia lane will cost you less than a euro. Indeed 99 cents will allow you to revisit the explosive excitement of Doom (released in 1995) or renew with the military specialists in Half-Life : Opposing force (1999). More often than not, the games at this price are based on titles like Half-Life and Doom, but you can also come across breakout games such as Reaxxion or the shoot'em up Heavy Weapon.

However, if you are looking for the latest best-sellers, the price cuts are rather modest. Only 10% off Call of Duty : World at war and GTA IV .

Like with any sale, the key is to pick wisely and not to rush into a bargain.
