New Product Survey: Scanners

Scanners are making their first appearance on DigitalVersus today, but the first question is: why would anybody need a standalone scanner now that multifunction printers all offer decent scanning?

Well, here are a few reasons:

• to get scans with more accurate colours
• they take up less space
• so you can scan negatives and slides
• to scan at higher resolutions
• because of their advanced document management features--with just one button, you can e-mail a PDF of your scanned document as an attchment
• or because they're easier to use

The first scanner we're looking at, the Pandigital Photolink One-Touch Scanner falls into this last category: a tenth of the size of normal scanners, its main role is scanning prints directly to a memory card so you can enjoy them on a digital photo frame.  Our other two scanners are both A4 flatbeds: the Canon CanoScan LiDE 700F and the Epson Perfection V30.
