We mentioned a few days ago that Nintendo was planning to reveal some big news at an exclusive press conference in Amsterdam on January 19. You can all stop speculating about just what it's going to be though: the Japanese giant is planning to update us on ... the 3DS.

''Again?'' is probably the most common reaction, while those who have been waiting for Nintendo to unveil more details about the 3DS might be saying ''it's about time.'' Not everybody has had a chance to try the new console, so next month's press conference should be an opportunity to find out about the manufacturer's new portable gaming device.

We're still somewhat surprised though, because the 3DS is already set to be the star of the show at the Nintendo World 2011 event in Tokyo, open to the general public and taking place two weeks ahead of the Amsterdam event.

Is Nintendo trying to keep European journalists happy, or will there be some entirely new surprises?

What could we expect? We'd like a confirmed European launch date and price, for starters, as well as some new games or more information about the hardware on offer, which, according to some rumours, can hold games up to 8 GB. We're delighted to have a chance to play with a 3DS of course, but we're hoping that we won't just get to visit a watered-down European version of Nintendo World.
