This year, we haven't just been testing TN panels that are infamous for dipping to black when you look at them from below. We've also seen some PVA technology, on monitors like the Samsung F2380 and IPS panels in screens like the Dell U2410. However, 2009 hasn't seen a single MVA screen in our labs.We were even beginning to think that they were on their way out. AU Optronics, however, who supplies the MVA technology, used the FPD trade show to unveil its latest generation of MVA panels, called AMVA5, with the following exciting features:
- wider viewing angles with colours that stay accurate for longer as you move away from the centre line of the screen
- LED backlighting
- improved contrast of up to 16 000:1
