Fresh out of its US lawsuit with Apple, Samsung announced yesterday a new XXL device for the rapidly expiring portable media player market.
Portable media players have been on their way out ever since smartphones waltzed their way in. Yet some companies continue to probe the market. And, as though to show the world that it's taking the US verdict in stride—the firm was order to compensate over $1 billion to Apple—Samsung is taking a chance on a line of (very) large-screen media players that may have trouble finding room in consumers' already-cramped pockets.
This Galaxy S3 look-alike will be available in two versions, 16 GB or 32 GB, both equipped with a microSD card reader. As of today no price or release date has been announced, but we'll surely learn more about it at IFA 2012 in Berlin, which begins this Friday and runs through next Wednesday. Stay tuned for full coverage of the event.

The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 features a 5.8-inch LCD display with 960 x 540 resolution, weighs 221 grammes and measures 85.9 x 165.8 x 10.8 mm. Basically, you won't be running any marathons with it. It will have Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth, GPS and a 2,500 mAh battery and run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung's TouchWiz overlay interface.
