Motorola has now released a version two of the Droid smartphone in the US, running on Android 2.2 (Froyo). Note that on this side of the pond, the Motorola Droid is known as the Milestone.

So here's another new addition to the fast-growing Android smartphone market. Alongside heavyweight brands like Samsung and HTC, Motorola is confirming its return to the sector with an upgraded version of the Droid.

Touchscreen & physical keyboard

The Droid 2 will have a 3.7-inch capacitive multitouch screen, a full physical keyboard, a 5-Megapixel camera, an 8 GB internal memory (expandable via MicroSD slot) and a 1 GHz processor (compared with 550 MHz for the original Droid).

The Droid 2 is on sale in the US for $199 on a two-year contract with Verizon.

So will we be getting a Milestone 2 here in the UK? No word on that for the moment but, as ever, we'll keep you posted.
