The next two Windows phone updates (Tango and Apollo) could get here in the second quarter of 2012, making up for the lag with Apple and Google.

Microsoft is finally adapting its operating system to different smartphone categories. After the Mango (or Windows Phone 7.5) update, Tango and Apollo are arriving on smartphones equipped with the Microsoft OS.

If WMPoweruser is to be believed, Tango, the version designed for entry-level smartphones, should be available as of the second quarter of 2012, with Apollo (high-end phones) coming in the fourth quarter.

Windows Phone Apollo is reported to be specially adapted to 'superphones' with a dual-core processor, 4G compatibility, NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and HD display (at last), retaining the fluidity of the OS at the same time.

Here Microsoft is trying to close the gulf gap with Android, Apple and their operating systems. The number of applications on sale for the Microsoft OS is also growing fast, with more than 50,000 now listed, more than Blackberry.
