Samsung isn't just expanding its Galaxy range of Android smartphones, as just ahead of the IFA tech show the Korean manufacturer has announced a new series of Wave mobiles running Samsung's own Bada 2.0 operating system.

As usual with Samsung handsets, there'll be a Wave for each market segment.

The Wave Y and Wave M are entry-level and mid-range models respectively, while the Wave 3, which will replace the Wave II, will be Samsung's highest-end Bada mobile.

As well as 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, the Wave 3 will have a 4-inch AMOLED screen, a 1.4 Ghz processor and a 5-Megapixel camera.

The Wave M will have a 3.65-inch screen, a 800 Mhz processor and a 5-Megapixel camera. And finally, the Wave Y will have a 3.2-inch screen and a 2-Megapixel camera.

For the moment, Samsung hasn't announced a release date or provisional pricing for these three new Bada handsets. In fact, we'll probably have to wait until the IFA consumer tech show officially opens its doors later this week to find out more about these models.

These three upcoming handsets and the new Bada SDK clearly show that Samsung isn't giving up on its multi-platform product strategy. With phones running Android, Bada and, to a lesser extent, Windows Phone 7, the Korean manufacturer has a huge choice of smartphones on the market. Some recent rumours (DigiTimes) have even hinted that Samsung could be set to acquire WebOS, recently abandoned by HP.
