Building on the success of the Galaxy S2 and S3 handsets, the world's leading phone-maker no doubt already has a Galaxy S4 up it sleeve. In fact, it now seems that the S4 could be unveiled at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2013.

Samsung has already sold over 30 million Galaxy S3 handsets to date, but faced with competitors that are as active and as prolific as ever, the firm needs to make sure it doesn't lower it guard. Samsung may therefore decide to update its flagship handset sooner than usual, further cutting the shelf-life of its product. As of this year, the South Korean tech giant has decided to reduce the time it takes for its phones to hit the market after their initial presentation. So if the Galaxy S4 does get unveiled at next year's CES, it could be on the market before springtime 2013.

The Galaxy S3's successor is expected to have a 5" Full HD AMOLED screen (1920 x 1080 pixels) with pixel density at 441 pixels per inch. It would therefore beat all the current top-end models of the moment on pixel density (GS3, iPhone 5, Galaxy Note 2, Lumia 920, etc.). Otherwise, we can expect to see plenty of Full HD smartphone screens landing in 2013.
