It's official—the Samsung Galaxy S4 won't be unveiled at 2013's Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona in February. The eagerly awaited successor to the Galaxy S3 will, like the S3, be taking centre stage in its own special event, which looks set to be held in March.

Although it's no doubt one of the most eagerly awaited announcements in the smartphone world, like last year, Samsung has decided to go it alone with the Galaxy S4 rather than outing its star handset at the Mobile World Congress next month. Samsung did the same thing in 2012, opting not to present the Galaxy S3 at the Barcelona trade fair. Officially, and among other reasons, this move was aimed at bringing the phone's presentation nearer to its actual release date.

The Galaxy S4 is rumoured to have a 5" Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED screen, a quad-core Exynos 5450 processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 13-Megapixel photo and video camera.

JK Shin, head of Samsung's mobile division, recently confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 would be coming to Barcelona while also letting slip that the Galaxy S4 would be a no-show at MWC 2013. Samsung therefore seems to be taking a similar approach to last year, basing its pre-MWC build-up on a new 8" member of the Galaxy Note series. You may remember that MWC 2012 saw Samsung unveil its Galaxy Note 10.1, which was a key attraction on the firm's stand.

As a flagship handset, the Galaxy S4 is snubbing MWC to star in its own special event. Korean news site Asia Economic News is reporting that the "GS4" presentation event could be held on 22 March in the USA. That's not too long after the Mobile World Congress, which takes place between 25 and 28 February 2013. And if Samsung is keen to keep product presentations close to release dates, this may suggest that we'll be seeing the Galaxy S4 on shelves in April 2013. All of this, however, is still to be confirmed.
