According to several analysts' estimates, Nokia has already sold over a million Lumia 800 and 710 smartphones (combined) to its resellers. Investors and shareholders in the Finnish phone-maker are sure to find the news reassuring!
Although Nokia is being careful not to get too sure of itself just yet, the firm is almost certainly breathing a sigh of relief. Since the Lumia 800 launched in Europe in November, followed by the Lumia 710 in Russian and Asian markets in December, an average 1.3 million units have been sold to resellers and network operators. This estimate is based on a Bloomberg study, compiling expected sales figures for the end of 2011 from 22 analysts. The analysts' predictions ranged from 800,000 to over 2 million unit sales, with only one firm predicting Lumia sales of under 1 million handsets.
While official Lumia sales figures aren't yet known, these early estimations and the generally positive feedback from the specialist press have served to boost the confidence of investors in the previously flagging Finnish firm. With sales steadily falling over the last few years, and with Apple edging ahead of Nokia in smartphone sales, this welcome boost could help the firm claw back some of its market share. This recent success has in part been helped by Nokia's partnership with Microsoft, as the Windows Phone mobile OS continues to win over users with over 600,000 apps now available for the platform.
