Motorola's new Razr smartphone on Android Ice Cream Sandwich runs on a 2 GHz single-core Intel processor and 1 GB of RAM.

By taking root in this new Motorola handset, Intel is making up for lost time in the competitive smartphone chip market, currently largely dominated by ARM processors. The American CPU-maker launched into the mobile market earlier this year with the Orange San Diego. According to Intel, the chip in the Razr i promises high-speed downloading of online content such as web pages and faster photo shooting with the 8-Megapixel camera complete with burst mode.

This new phone has a 4.3" Super AMOLED Advanced display, an 8 GB internal memory (that can be expanded) and runs on pure Android, with no sign here of the firm's home-grown MotoBlur user interface. An update to Android Jelly Bean is apparently in the pipeline but no there's no word of a date for that yet.

The Motorola Razr is due to launch in the UK in October.
