It might be confined to the inside of a lab for the time being, but for us, it can't come quickly enough! We're talking about a new battery technology which can last for at least a week on a fifteen-minute charge.A group of researches from Chicago is working on a new type of lithium-ion battery for smartphones that should last longer than the day or so that most handsets currently manage.
So far, they've managed to bring the charging time time down to just a quarter of an hour and push the overall battery life up to a week. It sounds incredible.
Longer-lasting
That's not all. The researchers claim that even after 150 charge cycles, their new battery will still be five times more powerful than current models. So it's not just users who will be glad to have a battery that stays usable for longer, but the environment too.
According to the team, the ultra-powerful new battery could make it to the market in ... three to five years' time!
