HTC has unveiled the One X+, a souped-up version of the original One X handset. This high-end smartphone will be rubbing shoulders with the other top-of-the-range Android handsets of the moment, like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Optimus 4X HD, and, like its rivals, the One X+ is all about power.

HTC One X Plus

The One X+ runs on the Android Jelly Bean OS adorned with HTC's home-grown Sense 4 interface. It has a big 4.7" Super LCD 2 screen with 1280 x 720 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for boosted durability. It's powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1 GB of RAM.

The internal memory has been upped to 64 GB and the One X+ has a 2,100 mAh battery, like Samsung's Galaxy S3. According to HTC, the One X+ should therefore have a more impressive battery life than the original One X, with up to 37% more talk-time.

With photos now a more popular feature among smartphone users than web browsing or games, the One X+ is loaded with an 8-Megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) including a new self-portrait mode. Plus, the camera can now be easily accessed via the phone's ON/OFF button.

The One X+ is the same size as the One X, measuring 134.36 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm and weighing in at 135 g.

The One X+ is due for release in October. There's no word on official UK prices yet, but a leak from 02 listed the phone at £479.99 (without charger).

Note that HTC is promising Jelly Bean upgrades for the One X and One S in time for Christmas.
