Details of the Asus Padfone 2 have been unveiled ahead of the flashy presentation event due to take place in Milan later today. The new PadFone mobile still runs on Google's Android OS but now has a 4.7" HD screen and a 13-Megapixel camera based on a Sony-made backlit sensor.
Like the original PadFone, version 2 of this shape-shifting mobile can be slotted into a 10.1" tablet "Docking Station", which can in turn be connected to a keyboard-dock for instant transformation into a touchscreen Android netbook.
The PadFone 2 runs on a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, just like the upcoming Windows Phone 8 mobiles.
The tablet's 10" touchscreen has the same 1280 x 800-pixel resolution—no sign of Full HD here.
The smartphone has a 2140 mAh battery, while the now slimmer and lighter PadFone Docking Station brings a 5000 mAh battery to the table.
The PadFone 2 mobile and tablet are due to land before the end of 2012.
