RAW + JPEG Burst Mode

At the moment, the Transcend 400x joins SanDisk's Extreme and Extreme Pro cards amongst the ranks of the fastest Compact Flash cards. As you can see from the graph below, this card allowed our Canon 5D Mark II to produce a burst of ten RAW + JPEG photos in just 5.8 seconds.
The tech specs for Transcend's new 400x 64 GB Compact Flash card claim write speeds of 60 MB/s and read speeds of 90 MB/s. Transcend's website proudly announces that this 400x card can meet the 'demanding requirements of performance-conscious photographers', allowing them to get the most out of their digital SLRs.
Overestimated speeds
During our tests, Trancend's Compact Flash card didn't live up to the hype. When writing photos to the card, it reached 22.6 MB/s, making it around 38 MB/s slower than the manufacturer suggests. That discrepancy is even larger for read speeds: it only managed 37.4 MB/s, a long way short of the 90 MB/s we were promised.

Pluses
-
Good read and write speeds
-
Reasonable price
-
Suitable for a professional digital SLR
Minuses
-
Faster cards are available
The SanDisk Extreme Pro is certainly faster, but Transcend's 400x Compact Flash Card is still one of the best we've seen. It's also almost half the price of its competitor.
