No Software

PNY doesn't supply any data recovery software with this memory card and there's nothing on the manufacturer's website either. That's not particularly reassuring for a card that's primarily aimed at general, non-expert users.
Today we're testing the 4 GB model in PNY's Optima SDHC card range. The 16 GB and 8 GB cards both came out with a three-star score in our reviews, so can the 4 GB version do any better? Time to double-check the advertised minimum write speed of 4 MBps and the listed read speed of up to 20 MBps.
Decent performances

We found that our test model could reach write speeds of 10.4 MBps, which is a fair bit higher than the speeds quoted by PNY on the product's spec sheet. At this speed, you could copy a 4 GB file in 6 minutes and 25 seconds. That's nothing exceptional, but it's still decent enough. Our measured read speed of 17.1 MBps means you can unload a 4 GB file in 3 minutes and 55 seconds, which isn't bad either.

Pluses
-
Decent read and write speeds
-
Suitable for a compact camera
-
Price
Minuses
-
No protective case or file recovery software supplied
-
Write speeds are too slow for high-end cameras
With a write speed that easily exceeds 4 MBps, this 4 GB card is a nice surprise. It's perfectly suitable for use in most regular compact cameras, but you'll soon see its limits with an SLR.
