German manufacturer Loewe, which specialises in top-of-the-range audio and video equipment, has finally announced its first 3D televisions and Blu-ray players.

At the IFA Press Conference event this weekend, Loewe showed off a new range of 3D TVs using active display technology.  Dubbed the 'Individual Compose 3D' series, it replaces the earlier range with the same name.  Loewe's catalogue traditionally doesn't include very many models but every year sees significant upgrades and improvements.

The model we saw was a glass-and-aluminium 46'' television, with Full LED backlighting and a 400 Hz display.  With a 500 GB DR+ hard drive built-in, it can record 3D content.  For copyright reasons, though, you can't then export what you've copied from a Blu-ray 3D disc unless you use a separate external hard drive.  Even then, you'll have to rely on another Loewe product to play it back ...

And here's the bad news: the 46'' version of the Individual Compose has a starting price of around five thousand pounds—before you add any accessories like the Sound Projector speakers or extra 3D glasses.  It's set to go on sale at the end of spring or the start of summer 2011.

The latest updates to Loewe's range includes a new Blu-ray player.  The BluTechVision 3D will go on sale for around £800, and 3D glasses will cost around £125 a pair.

During the rest of the year, Loewe promises to upgrade the rest of its ranges, including the Art SL and Connect series, adding support for 3D.  And the brand's flagship TV, the Reference, will get 3D at the start of next year, with a 52'' 3D TV going for at least £10 000 ...
