Not for movies

Because there are no built-in speakers, no headphones out and no HDMI in, using the VA2448-LED as a fallback TV is rather problematic.
For the obstinate among you who want to try, this 24-inch struggles to give decent quality upscaling of SD sources. It's better to entrust this task to your player (software, DVD player, TV box etc) and get it to send 1080p straight to the screen.

Here's the ViewSonic VA2448-LED, a Full HD 24-inch screen with LED backlighting. Although its spec is nothing to get excited about, its price should open a few doors.
Hardware: no HDMI
Glossy at the front and matte at the back, the VA2448-LED is very much in keeping with current design trends. This unfortunately doesn't mean that it's any good. It comes with no accessories and its connectivity includes just a VGA and a DVI. The audio is completely nonexistent.Accurate colours after calibration
The default colours on the VA2448-LED aren't accurate. The slightly dominant blue is particularly noticeable. You therefore need to go into the menu to rectify matters. This isn't complicated: after setting the colours to 'user colours', you set the Green and Blue parameters at 93 and 86 respectively.

The contrast on the VA2448-LED is also pretty good. We measured the contrast ratio at 940:1, which is above average when it comes to monitors (around 850:1).
Not for gamers!
The ghosting time corresponds to what is announced by the manufacturer. This monitor should be reserved for office use or use where the image remains static. We don't advise you to use it for gaming because of the blurriness that you'll see when objects or people move fast. This is because of the ghosting that follows the main image, as our readings show:| Responsiveness | ||

This graph shows the ghosting time for this monitor. The shorter the time, the more responsive the monitor.
The input lag is under the threshold of human perception. Although not zero, it won't handicap you during any multiplayer games; though of course you have to actually dare to do some gaming on it first!

Pluses
-
Colours accurate after calibration
-
Nice size/price ratio
-
Contrast of 950:1
Minuses
-
Lacking on the hardware side (connectivity)
-
Ghosting time too long for gaming (23 ms)
The ViewSonic VA2448-LED will suit those who do Internet browsing and office document work more than gamers and photographers. If you fall into this first category, this screen gives a good size/price ratio and has decent contrast and colours.
