Subscores
The Samsung SyncMaster P2470H is a 24-inch monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The P2x70H range was released to make up for the lack of HDMI entry on Samsung's P2x70-series monitors, the same series that featured the five-star P2370. In fact, this socket and its integrated audio output are the only visible differences between the two models. That means there’s no reason why the ‘H’ version shouldn’t get just as good a score as its 'H-free' equivalent. Let’s find out.
Design & handling: VGA, DVI & HDMI
All there is to mention in this section is the monitor’s video connections, as the P2470H has no accessories and the screen can only be tilted slightly. So then, you’ll find VGA and DVI entries, as well as that all-important HDMI socket. Samsung has also included an audio output to transfer sound from the HDMI entry.
Accurate default colours that are even better when reconfigured
With the factory settings, the P2470H displays decent colours. In fact, before I even changed anything the deltaE was under 2.7. However, the sensor did pick up a colour temperature a little on the high side and a gamma curve that’s a little too low. That gives the picture a slight blue tinge and a bit of a ‘washed-out’ appearance.
These minor defects can be easily corrected via the internal menu by switching the colour temperature to ‘Warm’ and the gamma to ‘mode 3’. That makes the deltaE drop to 2.1 and gives colours that are accurate enough for tasks like amateur photo editing.
The contrast is a little less impressive at just 840:1, where the average value for monitors is around 850:1.
Responsiveness: good for gamers
Although it can’t rival 120 Hz monitors, the P2470H is one of the most responsive monitors we’ve tested. Fast-action scenes and movements are displayed with smooth, flowing pictures, making it a good choice for gamers of all kind.
Plus, the low input lag won’t impact multiplayer or online gaming.
