120 Hz: the new kings of reactivity

The most demanding gamers are often loathed to let their old cathode rays go as the frequency can be set according to their needs. LCDs on the other hand are often limited to 60Hz (60 fps).
120 Hz screens are currently the best available replacement.
Above and beyond the 3D experience that, we remind you again, requires an adequate graphics card and 3D glasses, 120 Hz screens are both responsive and practical and the only screens able to give you 120 fps (if your 3D card holds out), the standard required by the most demanding gamers.

Whether the screen is sold as a 3 ms or a 2 ms, such as the 2233rz, VX2268wm and GD245HQ, they break all records once the screen is at its max.
The best TN 2 ms 60 Hz screens are comparable to the responsiveness of the 120 Hz (0.35 coloured ghosting images at best, against 0.3 max for the 120 Hz), but without giving the fluidity of 120 fps.
LG is the fourth manufacturer to bring out a screen (the Flatron W2363D) that's compatible with NVIDIA's 3D vision technology. Up till now there were just two 22-inch screens (Samsung and ViewSonic) and one 24 inch (Acer). This one's a 23 inch Full HD.
Design and build: DVI and 2 HDMIs
Digital ins, VGA, DVI, HDMI, speakers, headpones socket: the LG screeen has the necessary but no surplus that would allow us to score it higher. No card reader, no USB hub, no height adjustable base.Don't forget that the HDMI doesn't yet support 120 Hz so you can't get your 3D through this connector.
Colours: you'll need to tweak things

| Ideal colours Compare the GD245HQ to other monitors in our Face-off |
Default colours suffer from a shift towards blues. Even with the naked eye you won't miss this. Thankfully, you can easily improve things from the screen menu by moving colour temperature from 6500K to sRGB. This sorts out the blues without introducing any other problems and you then get a reduction in the deltaE (colour difference between what's requested by the graphics card and what's produced on screen) to under 3.0, the threshold beyond which the untrained eye won't detect any colour anomalies. In terms of contrast, whether before or after changing the settings, you top out at 800:1, a little below 850:1 which is the average for screens.
Responsiveness: good but not the best
To be honest, we're a little disappointed. We've been spoiled up till now. Each time we've tested a new 120 Hz, we broke new ground. Here, the W2363D is just as good as the previous screens, not better. We'll get over it.
| Average ghosting over 10 frames |

Not the best then but quite responsive enough to give fluidity during rapid movement on the display. It'll handle all types of game and of course any office doc usage. Another positive, its average display delay is under two frames. This is too slight to matter and it'll be just as good when you're playing multiplayer as when you're playing solo. Pluses

Limited fexibility in terms of build
A very good screen, very responsive, easy to reset the colours. The Acer GD245HZ gives similar performance but has a higher contrast ratio.
