LG has outed a new monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio, the LG 29EA93, a 29-incher with 2560 x 1080 resolution.
The whole point of a screen like this is to be able to open multiple windows horizontally. The 29EA93 can display up to four windows on the screen using the 4-Screen Split feature. We recommend sticking with half of that, a 1280-pixel-wide area—it's a much more comfortable set-up to work on.
Of course, being LG, it's an IPS display. That means wider viewing angles on average. Based on the latest tests we've performed on IPS monitors, the contrast ratio shouldn't exceed 1000:1. And with 5 ms response times, the 29EA93 won't be the most responsive monitor in the world. That said, it's well-suited for productivity tasks and watching movies.
LG hasn't skimped on the hardware. The 29EA93 has integrated speakers totalling 7 watts of power, two HDMI ports, one DVI Dual Link port, one DisplayPort and one USB 3.0 port.
The price has not yet been revealed, but one thing is certain: it will be making its appearance in stores this November.
