Good work on the looks

With the E2207WSV, Iiyama has finally left behind the square box in grey and black that has been the usual look for the majority of entry-level monitors. Instead, we were pleased to find rounded corners and a glossy bezel on this model. Of course, this might not be to everybody’s taste, but it’s a worthy effort nevertheless.

The Iiyama Prolite E2207WSV might as well boil down to its tech specs, and nothing more exciting than that: its components offer no surprises.  What has changed, though, is that this low price screen is attractive and well-built, which is actually rather unusual.

Everything else is as you might expect.  The bad news is that this monitor is hardly the deal of the year--the best possible monitor at the lowest possible price it ain’t.  It’s just ‘average’.  The good news, though, is that there aren’t any nasty surprises.  The responsiveness is towards the lower end of average, but entirely acceptable and there isn’t any particularly noticeable input lag.

With the default settings, the colours are faithful.  Looking closely, you notice that there’s still a slight tinge of blue in some shades of grey, and that white is a little too red.  Unfortunately, no manual configuration solves either of these problems without adversely affecting some other aspect.

Some ghosting but good colours

Images show a good contrast, thanks to a very deep black (0.26 cd/m²).

As is often the case with entry-level monitors, Iiyama have cut the most corners in terms of hardware.  There is only a single VGA port and a flimsy pair of speakers which tend to struggle.

This is a well-designed screen that's not too expensive. Nevertheless, this carbon copy is not unlike the Hyundai N220W, which is even more affordable.
