On top of its good choice of video connections, this 29" monitor has a very handy four-port USB 3.0 hub. You also get a headphones out and a mini-jack entry for audio, but there aren't any built-in speakers. However, the UltraSharp U2913WM is compatible with the Dell AX510 soundbar (approx. £30).

21:9 Aspect Ratio

Before turning up in monitors, the 21:9 aspect ratio was first seen in TVs, often called "cinema style" TVs. In fact, this format is frequently used in the film industry, so these TVs were designed to get the best out of movies on the small screen. But, like 3D, the lack of available content can be problematic with this rather unusual format.

U2913WM double affichage

In a monitor, however, this aspect ratio can be more advantageous. With this 29" monitor, for example, the 2560 x 1080-pixel screen def means you get more onscreen detail than with a Full HD monitor (50% more pixels).

Compared with a two-screen set-up (two Full HD monitors), you get 50% fewer pixels with the U2913WM, but the Dell monitor also takes up less room, only requires one mains socket and only takes up one port on a graphics card.

Power use is announced at 32 watts, which seems pretty moderate seeing as that's around what we'd expect for a 27" model.

Otherwise, the RRP is clearly rather high for the U2913WM, especially when you can pick up two good-quality IPS monitors for much less. In any case, it'll be interesting to see how he U2913WM shapes up in practice.
