Asus VX279H 27" IPS Monitor Unveiled

Full HD IPS screen, two HDMI ports

Specs for the new VX279H monitor have now appeared on the Asus website. This 27" display doesn't yet have a suggested retail price, but its spec sheet shows some promising features, including an IPS screen and two HDMI entry ports with MHL support.

The design and tech specs of the VX279H are strongly reminiscent of the MX279H, another Asus monitor released towards the end of 2012.

Both models use a Full HD IPS screen panel and have two HDMI ports, a VGA entry, a headphones socket and an audio line-in that can be used in conjunction with the built-in speakers. Both have pretty rigid stands too, which only let you tilt the screen very slightly. Plus, the touch-sensitive buttons for the onscreen menu look to be exactly the same.

Still, the VX279H isn't 100% identical to its predecessor. Unlike the MX279H, the two HDMI ports in the VX279H support the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) standard for mirroring the display of compatible smartphones and tablets directly on the monitor screen. The speakers have been scaled down from 2 x 3 watts for the 2012 model to 2 x 1.5 watts for this updated version.

We certainly hope that these two monitors share similar levels of colour fidelity and contrast, as both were good in the MX279H. It's also reasonable to assume that the VX279H may launch at a similar price to its predecessor, which started life at around £310.

Asus is yet to confirm an official release date for the VX279H, but rumours point to its arrival sometime in October 2013.
