Although it varies from one monitor to the text, TN technology results in a certain amount of clouding in dark areas. The Acer H243HX is amongst the monitors that are least subject to this defect. Its not perfect, however. The more demanding viewer will prefer a monitor with a VA panel for better results screening films.
To give you built-in sound, the manufacturer has included a pair of 1 W speakers. As you might expect, the audio quality they deliver is far from good. To hear anything, you have to push the volume to the maximum. We feel you should consider using them only as a backup, and plan on acquiring a 2.0 or 2.1 kit, which wouldnt be a luxury.

The Acer H243H is a clone of the H243HX that we tested. Both products are 24'' monitors with 2 ms TN panels in the 16:9 aspect ratio, giving a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
On the back are HDMI, DVI, and VGA connectors and a two port USB hub that also serves to power the webcam located on the front panel. So it’s possible to connect any type of video source – a computer, a Blu-ray player, or a recent games console – and peripheral (mouse and keyboard).
The only difference: the H243H, but doesn't include the webcam or the two-port USB hub included in the 'X' version, which is why it has a final score of only three stars, instead of four.
Pluses
-
Very responsive
-
Accurate colours by default
-
Above average contrast 950:1
Minuses
-
TN panel, so poor vertical viewing angles
-
Built-in microphone has metallic sound and poor sensitivity
The H243H is an except copy of the H243HX, but has fewer extras: both the webcam and two-port USB hub are missing. It does have the same excellent responsiveness and accurate colours, any only the most demanding photographers will find its TN panel and the associated uneven colours an obstacle.
