HP's back in the tablet game with the Envy x2, a slate + keyboard combo.
Like Asus' EeePad Transformer Prime, the keyboard has its own battery and expands the tablet's connectivity with two USB ports and a HDMI port.
The IPS screen is 12" diagonally (compared to 10" on Asus' EeePad Transformer Prime), with 1366 x 768 resolution (compared to 1920 x 1200 on Asus' TF700T...).
The processor is an Intel Atom Clover Trail, which Intel usually promotes by saying it was designed to boost tablets' battery lives from 8 to 10 hours. We're patiently waiting to hear more about this from HP and find out the total battery life including the keyboard battery.
The Envy x2 will come with a choice of 32 GB or 64 GB of storage.
The tablet itself weighs 680 grammes and with the keyboard attached it totals 1.4 kg.
HP has yet to announce the price and launch date, but it would be reasonable to say that it will launch around the same time as Windows 8 in late October. The rumour circulating on US sites is that it will sell for between $700 and $800—which is just about the price of an ultrabook with beefier specs than this tablet...
