Asus has fallen behind Apple and Sony in getting Intel's new Haswell processors into its ultrabooks, but now it looks as though that's changing as the first models of the Zenbook Infinity UX301LA have started sprouting up at international online retailers.

With the same dimensions (32.5 x 22.6 x 0.55~1.83 cm) and weight (1.3 kg), the UX301LA bears a striking resemblance to last year's Zenbook Prime UX31A. But inside you will find pretty much everything a discerning 2013 buyer could possibly hope for: a Haswell-generation Intel Core i7 processor (the UX301LA-DE021H has an i7-4500U and the UX301LA-DE002P has an i7-4558U), 8 GB of RAM and two 256GB RAID 0 SSD's for added responsiveness. The graphics on the UX301LA-DE002P are handled by an Intel HD 5100 chipset and the UX301LA-DE021H carries an Intel HD 4400, which we'll be looking at on Friday when we review the Sony Vaio Pro 13.

Another selling point is the IPS touchscreen with WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels, much higher than the 13" MacBook Air's 1,440 x 900 resolution). For connectivity there's a micro-HDMI 1.4a output, a mini-DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader and a headphone/microphone combo jack.
