Light & Padded

Toshiba claim this bag weighs 900 g (2 lb), but our scales say it's actually closer to 800 g (1¾ lb). This is a lightweight bag, compared to an average weight of around 1.2 kg (2½ lb) and 3 kg (6½ lb) for the heaviest laptop bags.
Another point in the Toshiba's favor is their inclusion of lightweight, comfortable padding on the bag and on the straps:

This bag comes in several different versions. It's hard to claim that the one we tested, in a rather loud camouflage print, is particularly discreet.

What it is, though, is light, despite its bulky shape, and it is perfect for day-to-day use.
Students who need to throw a few books in the bottom along with their laptop will find it perfect, but geeks who need to carry a toolkit of peripherals with them are likely to be less happy.

Inside, there aren't many compartments. Two A4 pockets and a small pocket for accessories are accompanied by a few small panels that are a big enough for an iPod and a few pens.
A lot of other bags that we've looked at are a lot more complicated on the inside, and some manufacturers try hard to think of every peripheral you're ever likely to have on board.
All told, there are eight separate compartments in addition to the main pocket, including two on the side.
It's not clear what expensive electronic equipment Toshiba expects you to stash there, but we found there was enough room for a drinks can.

Two pockets on the inside: one for folders and documents, the other for your laptop
As we mentioned above, the whole thing seems aimed at students and school kids, rather than high-tech road warriors.
The bottom of the bag, for instance, isn't reinforced, meaning that you have to put it down carefully or risk giving your laptop and all its accessories a bit of a battering.
Equally, a handle of the top would have made carrying it by hand easier; you can carry it by grabbing both of the shoulder straps, but a dedicated handle would certainly make this a more attractive bag for professionals.
